A pharmacist in a hospital or clinic is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for patients. The pharmacist reviews prescriptions, prepares and dispenses medicines, and provides guidance to patients on proper usage, dosage, and possible side effects.
They work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate treatment and prevent medication errors. The pharmacist also monitors drug interactions, maintains proper storage of medicines, and ensures compliance with health regulations and standards.
In addition, the role includes managing inventory, checking expiry dates, and ensuring that all medications are available when needed. A pharmacist must be detail-oriented, responsible, and committed to patient safety.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) or higher qualification (PharmD preferred).
License:
Valid pharmacy license or registration from a recognized authority.
Experience:
Previous experience in a hospital or pharmacy setting is an advantage.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of medications, dosages, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical guidelines.
Communication Skills:
Ability to clearly explain medication instructions to patients and collaborate with medical staff.
Computer Skills:
Basic knowledge of pharmacy systems and inventory management software.
